Healthier Kids, Healthier School Environments – Kids just want to ride bikes

You can promote a more active, attentive student body and reduce traffic congestion around your school with one simple move. Install a bike rack. The percentage of children who walk or bike to school has dropped from 50% to 15% over the last 20 years. Not coincidentally, the rate of childhood obesity has tripled. By providing a safe, secure place to park bikes, you can get kids riding again – teachers, too.

And reducing the number of kids transported by car cuts down on congestion and pollution around your school.

Case Study: Safe Routes to School Bike to School Day promotion

As part of the National Partnership’s Safe Routes to School programming, increased effort has been made to get schools connected on the Bike to School efforts, culminating in Bike to School day in May. The Partnership provides an 8-week drawing and gives bike parking to the winning school each week. The Partnership approach Saris to find a rack that would be easy for schools to use, mobile so that the rack could be moved during the winter and during summer vacation, and used industry Best Practices (link to design guidelines) regarding bike spacing. We provided branded Stadium Racks for this application and worked closely with the National Partnership and the winning schools on this successful program.
